Fan of the sixties? Then you are going to love Edgar Wright’s ode to London and the swingin’ sixties with his psychedelic mystery-slash-nightmare treat “Last Night in Soho”, starring Tomazin McKenzie and Anya Taylor-Joy. Anyone with a heart beating for sixties fashion will no doubt fan over this movie which tells the tale of a fashion student and dreams that slowly turn to hellish nightmares.
The costumes however are heavenly. Norwegian youtuber and TV-personality Ingrid Bergtun fell in love with the clothes, particularly the flowing peach colored dress created by award winning costume designer Odile Dicks-Mireaux, in collab with designer Phoebe English. The original A-line dress worn by Taylor-Joy in the movie was designed from a vintage Nina Ricci-pattern, but Ingrid had no such pattern and made her own.

“It’s not the easiest dress I have created because the chiffon is a light material that kind of floats beneath your fingers, so I did not draw a pattern but rather modelled it directly on my body, says Ingrid. Mow the dress is ready for the Xmas party season, and who knows – perhaps the popular youtuber can be persuaded to show how she made it on her You Tube channel.
If you want to copy the vibe from the movie, stock up on hairspray and fake lashes, hit google and study the sexy, sultry looks of some of the it-girls of the sixties: Jean Shrimpton, Patti Boyd, and Brigitte Bardot. You may follow Odile Dicks-Mireaux’ example and take in some movie classics as well, like Julie Christie’s look in “Darling” from 1965, the cult classic “Beat Girl” from 1960 and the esthetics of European horror movies from the period.
