Indian doctors came to Oslo to learn from Solvår Hegge

Permanent makeup and scar camoflague can boost your self esteem, especially if you suffer from conditions like split lip, stretch marks, bald spots or scars. Lakshmi Sharada and Soujanya DhuliPala came all the way from India to learn scar removal from Norwegian power woman of beauty Solvår Hegge, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) & Founder of her own salon Invisibli in Oslo.

Lakshmi Sharada and Soujanya DhuliPala are both dermatologists with their own clinics home in India.

Both use Instagram, both to showcase their services and to follow trends and keep up to date with new methods.

– That’s where we found Solvår, says Lakshmi Sharada. Both are dermatologists and run their own clinics in Hyderabad, India.

– I’m very interested in PMU (permanent makeup) and do a lot of research on Instagram. At the clinic, I do eyebrows and lips, but as a dermatologist, I also come across a lot of people who have unsightly scars that they want to get rid of. So I was looking for an expert to teach me how to camouflage scars, and found Sol on Instagram. I checked out all her pictures and talked to her and that’s how I found out she was the best, says Lakshmi Sharada.

Dermatologist Soujanya DhuliPala, who also runs her own clinic in Hyderabad, have also studied Solvår hegge’s technique on Instagram and is impressed. Together they agreed to travel to Norway to meet Solvår and learn from her, so they embarked on the 13-hour flight to Oslo. It’s their first time visiting Scandinavia.

Back home at their respective clinics, it’s mostly skincare that is in demand. But if they have time, they perform PMU on lips and eyebrows.

– We’ve noticed a gradual increase in demand for PMU, but it’s especially scar removal that people want. Scars can be removed by laser, but even after that there are often some scars left. What Sol does, which we wanted to learn, is to camouflage the scars, says Lakshmi Sharada.

Solvår Hegge, skincare wiz and owner of Invisibli – her salon in Oslo – handed out diplomas to Dr. Lakshmi Sharada (left) and Dr. Soujanya DhuliPala after they attended her classes in Oslo.

– We also learned how to camouflage cleft palates, which many find both physically challenging as well as psychologically difficult to live with. With a good camouflage, the cleft palate becomes almost invisible, which boosts people’s self esteem. With Sol’s tattooing technique, you can create effects that looks almost three-dimensional, which gives the impression of plumping without having to inject anything. Lakshmi Sharada.

– In addition, we’ve learned how to remove white spots and stretch marks. And – we’ve learned lip brightening – to whiten lips. There’s a huge demand for that in India, says Soujanya DhuliPala.

– We have also had classes with micropigmentation while with Sol. It’s a completely different skill used on the scalp if you have bald spots and want to camouflage it.

-What does it mean to people that you can offer this type of beauty treatment?

– I think it means a lot both physically and psychologically. There’s always a stigma attached to having scars. Cleft palate is something that many people find distressing, not least psychologically because it affects the face. I work with a lot of cleft lip patients because we also have a colleague who is a dentist. So she takes care of the dental technicalities while I deal with the cleft lip, which becomes less prominent with scarring and tattoos, says Lakshmi Sharada.

– And we see all the time what it does to people’s confidence to have these things corrected, says Lakshmi Sharada.

– How long does PMU last before you have to repeat the treatment?

– One and a half to two years at least. And people can come in for a touch-up every now and then, says Lakshmi Sharada.

Solvår Hegge is also known for the fantastic technique she has developed for removing scars on the body and tattooing nipples after cancer surgery.

– We don’t have much demand for nipple surgery in India at the moment, but stretch marks are a big deal for many people, so we have a lot of people who want treatment there, says Soujanya DhuliPala.

– They explain that it is the younger population in India who take the most care of themselves, and that for many, especially men, visiting a skincare clinic can be a long way off.

– We hardly see anyone over the age of 50 who wants aesthetic procedures. And among our customers, perhaps 15-20 percent are men. But that’s changing with the younger generation; it’s no longer taboo to want to take care of yourself.
