Giambattista Valli hyllet sine italienske røtter og valgte det overdådige Palazzo Doria Pamphilj i Roma som visningsarena da den nye samarbeidskolleksjonen for H&M skulle vises. Palazzo Doria Pamphilj som ligger mellom Via de Corso og Via della Gatta er et privat palass fylt med noen av middelalderen og den bysantinske periodens mest verdifulle kunst, antikviteter og møbler, alt sammen eiet av familien Doria Pamphili. Med andre ord – en perfekt ramme rundt det som må være en av H&M-kjedens mest ekstravagante designerkolleksjon noensinne.
«Dersom det stemmer at motsetninger tiltrekker hverandre må dette være ett av tidenes beste bevis» skrev Vogue.com. For, designmessig er fast fashion og haute couture så langt fra hverandre som det er mulig å komme med H&Ms prisvennlige fast fashion og Vallis utpregede haute couture-tilnærming. Denne typen samarbeid fungerer som en bro for begge parter, og i en tid da fast fashion regnes som den kanskje største miljøverstingen kan vi alltids håpe at håndverk og kvalitet vil få en større plass også blandt kjeskjedene. Slik kan kolleksjonen sees som en direkte hommage til post-millenials generasjon Z med deres miljøbevissthet og flytende kjønnsgrenser.

Samarbeidskolleksjonen er også Giambattistas debut med mens wear, og det vil bli spennende å se hvordan menn 25 pluss takler utvalget av broderte jakker, joggedresser med leopard-trykk, gull og glam. En fest for øyet er det i hvert fall.

Giambattista Valli paid respect to his Italian roots when he chose Palazzo Doria Pamphilj in Rome as location for showcasing the collab-collection with H&M. The luxurious Palazzo Doria Pamphilj which is located between Via de Corso and Via del Gatta is a privately-owned palazzo housing some of the most valuable Byzantine art in Europe. The large collection of paintings, furniture and artifacts has been assembled since the 16th century by the princely Roman family Doria Pamphili. On other words – a perfect backdrop for what must be the most extravagant H&M-collab ever.
«If there’s some truth to the saying “opposites attract,” the collaboration between H&M and designer Giambattista Valli is certainly proof of it. Bringing together a fast-fashion giant and a designer with an haute couture sensibility, a well-heeled posse of beautiful It girls, and an aesthetic with a decidedly exclusive flavor could’ve come closer to an epic cultural clash than to a match made in heaven.» wrote Vogue.com after the event. And well, H&M’s fast fashion and Valli’s haute couture sensibility are perhaps as far from each other as possible but the genius behind collabs like this is the bridge they build. And in times when the textile industry is under siege as one of the worst polluters on the planet one can hope even chains like H&M will convert to a different approach where craft and quality precedes fast fashion. This way the collection is also a homage to the post millennials with their sustainability approach and gender fluidity.

This collection is also Giambattista Valli’s first foray into men’s wear and we cannot wait to see how men 25 plus will feel about gold embellishments, leopard print track suits, glam and glitter. But one cannot deny , the collection features some fascinating eye candy.
